Thermal decomposition?

It is done under pressure, a very high pressure in fact. At about 2000deg water is partially converted to hydrogen and oxygen. Conversion is a few percent. The reaction has been investigated as a potential source of hydrogen but the high temperature and enormous pressure involved severely limit the choice of construction materials.
