The Sims 3 loading problem?

I just installed the Sims 3 onto my computer with no problems. Then when I get to the loading screen for a new game it says "A serious error has occurred while loading sunset valley.sims3. It is strongly recommend that you restart the application." I have no idea what to do and I don't have any other saved games. I can't play at all; how do I fix it?
